CONFERENCE: Beastly Morality (Emory)

Emory University veranstaltet den Second Annual Animal Ethics Workshop at Emory University’s Center for Ethics, 8:00AM-3:30PM on Friday, April 5th, 2013.

Veranstalter Jonathan K. Crance schreibt dazu:
„Our theme, BEASTLY MORALITY, inspired proposals investigating the implications of the increasing evidence that other species besides humans also judge actions against standards of right and wrong, good and bad, and adjust their behaviors accordingly. We received a surprisingly high number of proposals from around the world; their quality was uniformly strong, which made selecting the few to fit into this one-day workshop exceedingly difficult.

The program is rich: contributors come from different fields and are at various stages of their careers. The day begins with Emory Professor Frans B. M. de Waal, Director of the Living Links Center for the Advanced Study of Ape and Human Evolution at Yerkes National Primate Research Center, who will speak about his most recent work, The Bonobo and the Atheist: in search of humanism among the primates (WW Norton & Co., 2013). And after the workshop concludes, there is a screening and discussion of the documentary, „Maximum Tolerated Dose.“ Overall, it promises to be an incredibly stimulating, diverse, and collegial daylong series of conversations.
